Annual Fall Harvest and Garden Cleanup
In partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassau County
Saturday, October 16th and 30th, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Roosevelt Community Garden
The days are getting shorter and nights are getting cooler, and that means it's time to start putting the Roosevelt Community Garden to bed for the winter. Please join us at the Garden for our annual year-end cleanup workdays to help winterize the Garden and prepare it for the next season.
Garden members and volunteers will give a hand with the following activities:
• remove all annual and non-producing plants (i.e. tomatoes, squash, lettuce) to prevent pests and diseases in the plots,
• weed paths and place mulch where applicable,
• plant cover crops to help prevent weeds inside the plot and add nutrients back to the soil
• collect and store all trellis, hoses and gardening tools inside the shed so they are available for next season.
Thank you to everyone who can join us for these two workdays. We want our Garden to look nice for the neighboring community, passersby, and our generous partners who made this wonderful opportunity available to us.
Note: The water will be turned off by October 30th and the Garden officially closes for the season by November 30th.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact North Shore Land Alliance at 516-922-1028 or email@example.com.
