Into the Wild (Children’s Nature Program)

Nature Scavenger Hunt

Into the Wild
Wednesday, August 13, 10:30 am– 11:30 am
Wawapek Preserve, Cold Spring Harbor

Instructor: Beth Finger, North Shore Land Alliance Long Island Water Education Program instructor

Little Explorers (Ages 3–5): Our forest animals and pollinators have learned to thrive right here in Wawapek. We will look for them and learn about where they live, what they eat and their roles in the ecosystem. Children, ages 3-5, must be accompanied by an adult.

Young Explorers (Ages 6-8): Biodiversity is important to any ecosystem. We will look for a variety of forest animals and pollinators and learn about their adaptations which help them to thrive right here in Wawapek.

About: This program is part of a series of nature activities (mostly scheduled for days schools are closed) are designed for 3-to-5-year-olds accompanied by an adult and for 6-to-8 year-olds. They encourage exploration, creativity and environmental awareness. They will enable youngsters to explore and celebrate butterflies, birds and other wildlife while helping nurture a love of nature and Wawapek.  As the Land Alliance’s Long Island Water Education Program instructor, Beth Finger educates elementary school students about the link between preserving land and protecting our water.  She also serves as Farm Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension, Suffolk County and Naturalist for BOCES.
