Description: Matheson Meadows is a 38.31-acre meadow surrounded by residential homes.  The meadow has a mix of wildflowers and woody shrubs/trees. There also stands a small community of locust trees straddling a border with one of the neighbors.

The meadow is filled with a variety of grasses, wildflowers, birds and trees that make this property unique. It stands as a reminder of a woman’s wise and gracious gift to allow nature to take its course. Matheson Meadows can allow ecologists and ornithologists to have opportunities to study a natural area that is and was not disrupted by bulldozing and building.

History: In 1968, Mrs. Anna Matheson Wood, founder and honorary member of the Three Harbors Garden Club, conveyed title of an open tract of 38 acres of her property to the Long Island Chapter of The Nature Conservancy. A bronze plaque is left to show that the property is a gift from Mrs. Wood in memory of her father, William John Matheson, a scientist and conservationist who acquired the estate in 1900.
