Barbara Davaros – 2018 O’Neil Conservation Steward
North Shore Land Alliance Selects Barbara Davaros as First Fall O’Neil Conservation Steward. We are pleased to welcome Barbara Davaros, our first fall O’Neil Conservation Steward, and look forward to working with her. Barbara will assist our stewardship team with preserve maintenance, monitoring conservation easements, conducting plant surveys, supporting our Long Island Water Education Program, and researching protocols for harvesting and processing seed from our preserves for future planting. Barbara is a recent graduate of SUNY Oneonta, where she studied biology with a concentration in ecology and conservation. About the William C. and Joyce C. O’Neil Conservation Steward Program Thanks to the Joyce C. and William C. O’Neil Charitable Trust, North Shore Land Alliance launched a formal internship program. Through this competitive program, qualified college students gain valuable conservation-related skills, including writing management plans for preserves, mapping trails, organizing volunteer and fundraising events, managing invasive plants, installing a woodland trail at Wawapek and educating the public about conservation. Sofi Solomon
Sofi Solomon Selected for the Land Alliance’s 2018 O’Neil Conservation Steward Program. We are delighted to welcome Sofi Solomon to our 2025 O’Neil Conservation Steward program. Sofi is a sophomore at the University of Michigan in the Environmental Program. Her experience working at a nature camp, teaching children on long days outside and curating the camp’s animal collection has primed her for this internship. Abby Bezrutczyk – 2018 O’Neil Conservation Steward
Abby Bezrutczyk Selected to be an Intern for the Land Alliance’s 2018 O’Neil Conservation Steward Program. We are delighted to welcome Abby Bezrutczyk as a 2018 O’Neil Conservation Steward. Abby is a sophomore at Cornell University studying environmental sciences and plant science. She has fueled her interest in conservation by working in an invasive plants lab and with specimens at Bailey Herbarium. Abby has experience doing field work and is an avid gardener. This summer she is looking forward to learning more about the natural places of Long Island where she grew up. About the William C. and Joyce C. Emily Manning – 2018 O’Neil Conservation Steward
Emily Manning Selected for the Land Alliance’s 2018 O’Neil Conservation Steward Program. We are delighted to welcome Emily Manning as a 2018 O’Neil Conservation Steward. Emily is a sophomore at Elon University NC and is majoring in environmental studies, with a minor in public health. Emily has held similar stewardship positions where she maintained trails, removed invasive plants and gave guided nature walks.
