Gia LaLone Joins the Land Alliance 2026 O’Neil Conservation Steward Program
The Land Alliance is delighted to welcome Gia to the program. She is one of four outstanding interns selected to participate in the Land Alliance 2026 O’Neil Conservation Steward Program.
The internship will begin the first week of June and run through August. Throughout the summer, our O’Neil Stewards will conduct plant surveys and wildlife inventories, maintain trails, manage invasive species, assist with monitoring conservation easements and lead environmental education programs for children.
Gia is a recent graduate of SUNY Oneonta, with a degree in Environmental Sustainability and Geography. Growing up in the Central Pine Barrens and being a member of 4-H instilled a passion for environmental conservation at a very young age. She hopes to contribute to protecting Long Island’s ecosystems and habitats through her work.
The program is made possible thanks to the generous support of the Joyce C. and William C. O’Neil Charitable Trust.
About the William C. and Joyce C. O’Neil Conservation Steward Program
Thanks to the Joyce C. and William C. O’Neil Charitable Trust, North Shore Land Alliance launched a formal internship program. Through this competitive program, qualified college students gain valuable conservation-related skills, including writing management plans for preserves, mapping trails, organizing volunteer and fundraising events, managing invasive plants, installing a woodland trail at Wawapek and educating the public about conservation.
