Kaitlyn Cunningham – 2021 O’Neil Conservation Steward
Kaitlyn Cunningham Joins the Land Alliance 2021 O’Neil Conservation Steward Program We are delighted to welcome Kaitlyn to our 2021 O’Neil Conservation Steward program. Born and raised on Long Island, Kaitlyn Cunningham is a rising senior at Vassar College currently studying Chemistry and Earth Science. Kaitlyn has taken various environmental courses and worked with EcoLeaders to remove invasive vines and establish a pollinator garden on campus. She is particularly interested in water systems and their protection. Kaitlyn enjoys spending time outside surrounded by plants and rocks to identify, swimming or reading. About the William C. and Joyce C. O’Neil Conservation Steward Program Thanks to the Joyce C. and William C. O’Neil Charitable Trust, North Shore Land Alliance launched a formal internship program. Through this competitive program, qualified college students gain valuable conservation-related skills, including writing management plans for preserves, mapping trails, organizing volunteer and fundraising events, managing invasive plants, installing a woodland trail at Wawapek and educating the public about conservation. Nicole Miliano – 2020 O’Neil Conservation Steward
We are pleased to welcome Nicole Miliano to the fifth year of the O’Neil Stewards Program. Nicole Miliano joins the Land Alliance as a 2020 O’Neil Conservation Steward. Nicole Miliano is a senior Environmental Sustainability/Geography major at SUNY Oneonta. She is looking forward to continuing gaining experience working outdoors in hopes to protect the environment. During a service trip in Guatemala, her passion for preventing land and water pollution was reinforced. She is interested in water quality, land conservation, travel, and being immersed in different cultures. About the William C. and Joyce C. Peter Markotsis – 2020 O’Neil Conservation Steward
We are pleased to welcome Peter Markotsis to the fifth year of the O’Neil Stewards Program. Peter joins the Land Alliance as a 2020 O’Neil Conservation Steward. A Long Island native, Peter Markotsis is a rising senior at Vassar College majoring in Earth Science and Society (a unique blend of Earth Science and Geography) and minoring in Creative Writing. When not exploring the Peconic Bay on a paddle board or attempting to hike the 46 highest mountains of the Adirondacks, Peter can often be found reading outside, or nestled in a bookstore in an effort to write a novel about dragons. We look forward to working with Peter throughout the summer as he supports our land stewardship, conservation efforts, and community engagement across our preserves. About the William C. and Joyce C. James Pizaro – 2020 O’Neil Conservation Steward

James is a student at Stony Brook University focusing on Environmental Studies. He is a Long Island native and an Eagle Scout and has dedicated hours of service to conservation through scouting. Barbara Davaros – 2018 O’Neil Conservation Steward
North Shore Land Alliance Selects Barbara Davaros as First Fall O’Neil Conservation Steward. We are pleased to welcome Barbara Davaros, our first fall O’Neil Conservation Steward, and look forward to working with her. Barbara will assist our stewardship team with preserve maintenance, monitoring conservation easements, conducting plant surveys, supporting our Long Island Water Education Program, and researching protocols for harvesting and processing seed from our preserves for future planting. Barbara is a recent graduate of SUNY Oneonta, where she studied biology with a concentration in ecology and conservation. About the William C. and Joyce C.
