For a limited time, Long Island residents can qualify for funding to help replace old septic systems and cesspools with new clean water septic technology.
The Water Quality Improvement Program is designed to help Suffolk and Nassau County homeowners and small business owners through the clean-water septic system grant application and permitting process.

2024 LONG ISLAND CLEAN WATER SYMPOSIUM
On May 16, 2024 North Shore Land Alliance, Citizens Campaign for the Environment and The Nature Conservancy co-hosted the 2024 Long Island Clean Water Symposium: Global Challenges and Local Solutions. Over 150 individuals participated in this highly successful event, which showcased presentations from both national and local water experts. Do you want to help water quality on Long Island?
You may be eligible for thousands of dollars to upgrade to a nitrogen removing clean water septic system from programs offered by New York State, Nassau County, and Suffolk County. Available grants can cover up 95% of the cost to install a clean water septic system.
The North Shore Land Alliance, a non-profit land trust can help you find out if you qualify through our Water Quality Improvement Program. The Water Quality Improvement Program is designed to help Long Islanders navigate the clean water septic system grant application and permitting process at no cost. We can guide you through the process of replacing your septic system – from choosing a septic replacement contractor all the way through the installation of the new system.

If you have a septic system or cesspool that doesn’t treat nitrogen, one of the most important things you can do is replace your polluting wastewater system with a new clean water system. Thanks to funding secured by Long Island leaders, these new systems can be installed for a fraction of the cost of conventional systems.
