Members have the flexibility to contribute regularly to the Land Alliance’s mission by setting up monthly or annual donations, providing a continuous stream of income for our initiatives year-round.

Donate Appreciated Stock

Giving stock is an easy process – and we are here to help.  Please contact our office for the brokerage information.

Also, it’s important to note, stock will come to our organization without any identification of the donor, so please send us a letter (North Shore Land Alliance, PO Box 658, Oyster Bay, New York 11771), give us a call (516-922-1028) or email us ([email protected]) to let us know your name, address, phone number, your broker’s name and the stock that is being transferred.  Thank you!

Gift & Estate Planning

Providing for the Land Alliance in your estate plans by naming the North Shore Land Alliance as a beneficiary in your will or as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy, retirement plan or donor-advised fund helps the Land Alliance to protect critical natural areas for future generations.

A bequest, one of the simplest ways to provide for the Land Alliance’s future, can take different forms and be easily modified to address your changing needs. Bequests can be unrestricted, allowing the Land Alliance to apply the gift where the need is greatest. They may also be earmarked for special purposes such as land acquisition, stewardship, education or operations.

Gifts of all types help to preserve our community’s extraordinary natural areas and can provide you with many benefits as well. For more information about ways to give, please contact the Land Alliance at 516-922-1028 or [email protected]. It’s always a good idea to consult your tax, legal and accounting advisors before initiating any of the above gifts.

Conservation Easement

North Shore Land Alliance works closely with landowners who care deeply for their land and are committed to ensuring that the landscapes are conserved in perpetuity. The Land Alliance employs an increasingly diverse and flexible number of land conservation tools.

Donate Land

Donating land for conservation purposes is truly one of the finest legacies a person can leave for future generations.  You can, in effect, control the destiny of the land you and your family have loved for so many years.

An outright donation may be the best conservation strategy for you if you do not wish to:

  • Pass the land on to heirs;
  • Own property you no longer use;
  • Own highly appreciated property:
  • Have substantial real estate holdings and wish to reduce estate tax burdens;
  • Would like to be relieved of the responsibility of managing your land.

A donation of land to a qualified conservation organization releases you from the responsibility of managing the land and can provide substantial income tax deductions and estate tax benefits, while also avoiding any capital gain taxes that can result from a sale of the property.  Most importantly, if the land is donated because of its conservation value, it will be protected in perpetuity.

To learn more about Land Donations please contact the Land Alliance at 516-922-1028 or [email protected].
