Living Mulch: Harnessing the Power of Native Plants as Ground Covers
Monday, March 25th, 4:00 pm
Education Annex, Humes Preserve
345 Oyster Bay Rd, Locust Valley
Led by Missy Fabel, Ecological Landscape Designer, Westchester County
Traditional mulching methods have long been the go-to for gardeners and landscapers, but what if there’s a more sustainable and ecologically beneficial alternative right beneath our feet? Explore the use of native ground covers as an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional mulch. Native ground covers enhance biodiversity, foster ecosystem health and minimize long-term maintenance. Missy will demonstrate the best practices for adding this crucial layer to all areas of the landscape, from sun to shade, wet to dry, foundation plantings, garden beds and natural areas.
